How to start an SMM panel business: pick a niche and the platforms you will sell, choose a setup (resell from a panel account, run your own panel script connected to providers by API v2, or rent a child panel), test suppliers with small orders, price with room for refunds, and plan support before your first customer arrives.

What does an SMM panel business actually do?

You sell social media services, such as followers, likes, views and comments, to creators, agencies and other resellers. You buy the delivery from a provider and keep the difference. If the idea of a panel is new to you, start with what an SMM panel is.

The part people underestimate: your real product is reliability. Customers come back when orders start on time, refills arrive inside the promised window and failed orders are refunded without a fight. Every one of those depends on the provider behind you, so choosing one is a business decision, not a technical detail.

Rules on selling digital marketing services, registering a business and paying tax differ by country, and a platform's terms of service are a separate question from the law. Check your local rules and read is an SMM panel legal before you launch.

Step 1: Which niche and platforms should you start with?

A panel with thousands of services looks impressive and is hard to run. Each service is a promise you have to support. Start with a clear audience and a menu you can stand behind.

  • Pick an audience you can reach. Local agencies managing client accounts, musicians promoting releases on YouTube and TikTok, or other resellers who want wholesale prices each need different services and a different tone.
  • Pick one or two platforms first. Learn how their services behave, how drops look and what customers ask about, then expand. Orbismm covers Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X and Snapchat.
  • Keep the first menu short. Ten to twenty services you have tested beat hundreds you have never ordered.
  • Write down what each service is for. A clear note like "slow start, 30-day refill" saves you support tickets later.

Step 2: Which setup should you choose?

There are three common ways to run the business. They differ in cost, control and how tied you are to one provider. Our child panel vs panel script guide compares them in detail.

SetupHow it worksGood fit for
Reselling from a panel accountYou place orders in a provider's panel or API for your clients and bill them yourself. No storefront of your own.Agencies and freelancers with a handful of clients
Your own panel script + API v2You run panel software (self-hosted or SaaS) on your domain and add providers with an API URL and key. Orders forward automatically.Resellers who want their own brand and more than one provider
Child panelYou rent a ready-made panel that is tied to one parent provider. Quick to launch, limited to that provider.Testing demand with minimal setup, accepting lock-in

Orbismm fits the first two. You can order in our panel for your clients, or add https://orbismm.com/api/v2 as a provider in your script. API v2 is the standard SMM panel API, so it works with any panel script that supports providers. Orbismm does not sell child panels.

How much does it cost to start an SMM panel?

There is no single price, but the cost lines are predictable. The ranges below are typical of what we see in the market at the time of writing. They are not quotes, and vendors change prices often.

CostTypical range (varies)Notes
DomainAbout $10–$20 per yearPremium names cost more
Panel script, SaaSOften $20–$100+ per monthHosting and updates usually included
Panel script, self-hosted licenseOften a one-time $50–$500+Add hosting, updates and your time
Hosting for a self-hosted scriptRoughly $5–$50 per monthGrows with traffic
Payment processingOften about 0.5%–4% per paymentDepends on method and processor; cards add chargeback risk
Starting balance with your providerWhatever your first orders needOrbismm charges no deposit, monthly, setup or API fees

On Orbismm, top-ups are in cryptocurrency through Cryptomus (USDT, BTC, ETH, TRX and 20+ other coins). You send exactly the amount you choose; the Cryptomus processing fee is deducted from it and the rest is credited when the payment confirms.

Budget for a few months of running costs before the business pays for itself. The first months usually go to testing services, fixing your menu and finding customers.

How should you price services, and what margin is realistic?

Price per 1,000, like providers do. Your margin has to cover more than the supplier's price: payment fees, support time, and refunds you give customers that your provider does not cover, such as drops after the refill window.

For example, with hypothetical numbers: you buy a service at $2.00 per 1,000 and sell it at $3.50 per 1,000. A customer orders 5,000.

  • Revenue: 5 × $3.50 = $17.50
  • Supplier cost: 5 × $2.00 = $10.00
  • Payment fee at 3%: about $0.53
  • Reserve for goodwill refunds and support at 5%: about $0.88
  • Net: about $6.10, roughly 35% of the sale

Supplier discounts move that number. Orbismm tiers are based on your spend over the last 30 days and recalculated nightly: Standard pays list price, Pro gets 5% off from $500, and Business gets 10% off from $2,500. At Business, the $10.00 cost above becomes $9.00. High-volume resellers can agree custom prices with us. Details are on pricing.

Two more things protect your margin. The price of an Orbismm order is fixed when it is placed, and price increases are announced at least 48 hours ahead in the panel and by webhook, so you have time to update your own prices.

How do you choose and test a supplier?

Treat a new supplier like a new hire: check the record, then give it small jobs before real ones. Our panel evaluation checklist goes further; these are the essentials.

  1. Place small live orders on every service you plan to list, on accounts you control. Note when each one starts and how fast it delivers.
  2. Compare with published numbers. Each Orbismm service shows its median start time measured on our own orders over the last 30 days, speed per 1,000 and the refill honoured rate. A new service shows "Measuring" until 30 orders have started.
  3. Read the refill and cancel rules before you copy them into your own terms. See refill and cancel.
  4. Check what happens to undelivered parts. On Orbismm, anything that can't be delivered is refunded to your balance automatically. See the refund policy.
  5. Test the integration without spending. Orbismm sandbox test keys run full order lifecycles with play money and never place real orders.
  6. Open a test ticket and see how long the first reply takes.

Site-wide median start time over the last 30 days is still being measured, measured on still being measured orders. For our 10 most-ordered services it is still being measured.

Also ask what a supplier does when a line stops delivering. A panel that maps each service to a single source leaves you holding stuck orders. Our guide on the main SMM provider myth explains why that matters.

How do you handle support and refunds for your own customers?

Your customers see your brand, not your provider's. When an order drops or stalls, they ask you, and you owe them an answer.

  • Never promise more than your provider does. If a service has a 30-day refill window, do not sell it as lifetime.
  • Validate links before ordering. Orders delivered to a wrong link the customer gave are not refunded, by us or by most providers.
  • Plan cash for refunds. Orbismm refunds go to your Orbismm balance, which can't be withdrawn or transferred. You reuse that credit on the next orders, but refunds to your own customers come out of your own funds.
  • Show clear statuses. Map provider statuses to plain words for customers. See order statuses explained.
  • Automate updates. Poll status through API v2, or use signed webhooks on API v1.

When you need us, tickets opened from an order attach it, and people answer 24/7, every day of the year, through support.

How do you grow an SMM reseller business?

  • Keep customers before chasing new ones. Agencies that order every week are worth more than one-off buyers.
  • Track margin and refund rate per service every month. Drop services that cost more in support than they earn.
  • Add platforms one at a time once the first ones run smoothly.
  • Offer your own API. Most panel scripts can expose one, which lets other resellers buy from you.
  • Refer other resellers. The Orbismm affiliate program pays 5% of the net spend of every reseller who signs up through your link, for life, paid daily to your balance.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to start an SMM panel business?
Typical costs are a domain (about $10–$20 a year), a panel script (often $20–$100+ a month as SaaS, or a one-time license plus hosting), payment processing fees and a starting balance with your provider. These are typical market ranges and vary by vendor.
Do I need to know how to code to start an SMM panel?
No, not with a SaaS script or a child panel. Adding a provider in most panel scripts means pasting an API URL and key. Self-hosting a script needs basic server skills.
Can I run an SMM panel under my own brand and domain?
Yes. With your own panel script you choose the domain and branding, and connect providers such as Orbismm through API v2 behind it.
Is it legal to start an SMM panel business?
It depends on your country, and the platforms' terms of service are a separate question from the law. Check local rules on business registration and tax, and read our guide on whether an SMM panel is legal.
How do I test a provider before selling its services?
Place small live orders on accounts you control and compare start times with the provider's published numbers. On Orbismm, sandbox test keys let you run full order lifecycles with play money before spending.
Can I withdraw refunds from my Orbismm balance?
No. Refunds go to your Orbismm balance, which can't be withdrawn or transferred, so plan your own customer refunds from your own funds.
